I DO LOVE THE GAME

My husband, you remember him, right? My husband came to bed at 2:30 this morning, sober, woke me, and asked if I wanted to go to a hockey game Saturday night to celebrate my birthday. Whoa! Can an old dog really learn new tricks? We haven’t been to a sporting event of any kind for more years than I can count and I’m not sure who is to blame for that. He is a spectator and will watch any sport on TV, but I never got the feeling he liked live games as much. No play by play or analysis no doubt. I on the other hand have not the slightest interest in TV sport, but the live games, well, what’s not to like. As I lie there in his arms, he tells me he likes the changes I’m making in my life. It only takes me seconds to analyze that one. I am becoming more like the girl he married, before the weary days of being the one in charge of everything weighted me down, figuratively and literally. After long years of taking me for granted, he still likes the chase, the feeling of insecurity I have given him. We have come a long way in the short time since I told him I was already out the door. I still don’t know what I’m going to decide, but my life is certainly much more interesting than it was before. I have the freedom I needed and it seems to suit him as well as it does me. He never asks questions about where I’m going or what I’ve done anymore, and he’s mostly quit drinking. That “mostly” thing is the kicker, but still, a hockey game! I have to give the man credit; he’s still knows how to get my attention.

  1. have a fantastic time tonight SB. i LOVE live hockey games too (actually any live game) but can't remain glued to the TV to watch it!

the changes you're making to yourself are affecting changes in your husband too, i'm sure.

  2. Personally, I think youadas should back off on the drinking but that's a nice story to hear. alkfdj

I hate watching hockey games on t.v. but then one day I went w/ a girlfriend to see Dartmouth University versus Brown University and HOLY SHIT! It's awesome in person!

That sounds like a good deal.

  3. Definitely incredible live and I almost didn't go the first time because it bored me so much on TV.

I'm not sure what you're saying about the booze, but in case you've missed it, here's a short history lesson. My husband is an alcoholic. I told him I was tired of finding him passed out drunk every night and I was leaving. He told me he'd stop, as well as about anything else he could think of to keep me here. I told him it wasn't a negotiation, because we'd been down that road before. I haven't made a final decision, but am living with one foot on the threshold these days. As far as my drinking, I drink maybe a glass of wine a week, occasionally over indulging once every two or three months. That would be about 4 glasses. I've never passed out or forgotten what I've done. It's just not my addiction.
