You didn't want to dance
But you smiled and stood up and took my hand.
Away we went.
You said, "Only the slow ones,"
But when the next set had a drum solo,
You were still on your feet.
You said, "A few drinks first,"
But they played "Rock this Town Tonight"
and sober, you spun me, whirled me, caught me.
But that night when you told me,
"I love it when you pretend to let me lead."
You had me in the palm of your hand, forever.
The boy I met when I was a child, trying to raise a child on my own, is celebrating a milestone birthday today. He's still my best friend, the one I save the last dance for, and the man I'm going home with at the end of the night. He is patient, tender, loving, and he is always there for me when I need him, and he knows I need him before I do. Thanks for the dance darlin'.
Beautiful to read love...

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Bro!
ReplyDeleteI keep falling in and out of love, but my best friend is there for me always. He might just be staying around because of my cooking during those times he falls in and out of love with me, but whatever, it seems to keep working.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! - You are, both of you! Have a lovely birthday celebration, and - Falling in and out of love, that's what marriage is all about, non?!
